Crowns and Bridges
A crown is a restoration that covers a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size, and prevent further fractures. Its purpose is to strengthen and improve the appearance of the tooth. Based on each patient’s preference, they can be made to match the neighboring teeth (in porcelain or zirconia), or we offer gold crowns for their strength, wear factors, and durability, as well. Crowns are used to achieve a variety of needs; restore weak or fractured teeth, cover badly shaped or discolored teeth or used in conjunction with root canals, bridges and dental implants.
A dental filling replaces a portion of the tooth that is missing or unstable due to tooth decay or fracture. Teeth can be filled only when there is sufficient remaining tooth structure to surround the filling. We provide metal-free, tooth-colored fillings in resin or porcelain, and based on our well-researched and proven techniques, our patients rarely experience sensitivity after new fillings (or replacement fillings) are placed.
A dental implant functions and appears much like a natural tooth. It has a titanium root portion that is anchored in the bone, and this is covered by a natural-looking crown. We work closely with the best oral surgeons in Portland to have the implant placed, which most patients report to be a fairly simple procedure with an easy recovery. After a short healing time, the patient returns to our office for the placement of two parts: the abutment (or a “post” attached to the implant) and the natural tooth crown that is visible in the mouth. Implants are state-of-the-art and Dr. Douglas can explain the many benefits of this technique, if you are missing a tooth, or need to have one removed.
If you have the need for removal of a wisdom tooth, or any other teeth, for any reason, Dr. Douglas is able to provide many oral surgery procedures right here in our office. You can opt for oral sedation if the thought of the treatment makes you nervous, but most patients find that the procedure is so much easier than they anticipated when they have teeth removed here in our office.
